Rölvaag if I could have the money another year. My request was granted, and my wife and I signed new note due May 25, 1931. Later I sent $15.00 as interest. Rölvaag wrote and said that was $1.00 more than he should have and told me that next time I was to pay interest I should send only $13.00.
Last spring I asked if Professor Rölvaag would let me have the money still another year. He wrote

a kind letter and said that I could have the money for another year, but sent me no new note. The understanding was then that I could have the money until May 25, 1932. I sent, not long before Professor Rölvaag got sick this fall, $13.00 as payment of interest.
I trust, then, that the note -- according to Professor Rölvaag's promise -- may remain extended to May 25, 1932, at which time I shall do my best to pay all in full.

My dear Mrs. Rölvaag:
I have your letter of May 27 in regard to my loan.
I am so sorry that I have not been able to take care of my loan any better than I have. I bought a little land a few years ago, and this last year in particular creditors have [?] me most relentlessly. I shall do my utmost. And this is what I will promise to do: I get my next check from the school board on June 17, and I will then send you $100.00 as payment on principal and $14.00 as payment of interest. And next fall after school has opened I will send more. I wish that I could do better, but I am stripping myself in doing as above mentioned - I wrote to Attorney Birdahl in Sioux Falls a little over a week ago.
I had not expected last fall when I sent interest to Professor Rölvaag that he would be gone by this time. May the Lord bless and console you! And may he be with us all!
Finally let me know if above mentioned is not all right.
Greetings from
A. C. Erdahl

My dear Mrs. Rölvaag:
I have received your letter of recent date.
I am extremely sorry for not having done better than I have with regard to the loan. A few years ago I lost several thousand dollars on some land I had bought. The last half year, very possibly because of the hard times and the depression, I have been so often unexpectedly and mercilessly crowded in money matters that I came to the summer vacation broke. In a little over a week, namely on Friday, June 17, I get a check from the school board. On that same day I will send $100.00 plus $14.00 for interest. And if I can send more, I will do so. I shall most certainly do my best to have note all paid as soon as I possibly can.
Yours sincerely,
A. C. Erdahl
