My dear Mrs. Rölvaag: -- I have your postal. I will get check from school board Friday two weeks from next Friday, and I will then send all I possibly can. You may be sure that I am honestly doing my best.

Dear Mrs. Rölvaag, --

I meant honestly to have some money for you before Christmas. Some sickness in the family and the fact that the teachers did not get their salary for the last two weeks -- which they have done in the past -- upset my honest intention. We have a pay-day on January 6, 1933, and another on January 27. I certainly will send a payment as soon as I in any way am able to do so. If I can secure some money, I will send it or come in person to Northfield between Christmas and New Year.

I wish you all a blessed Christmas and an in every way good new year.

Dear Mrs. Rölvaag, --

Permit to wish you all the very best of a new year.

We have all been well, except that our little girl and I had -- I think -- some kind of a stomach flu during a part of the Christmas vacation. We are now both well. Mrs. Fuhr of Duluth and her little boy were here from Christmas to New Year. Her boy, while here, got the sickness first. He seemed about well again, you might say entirely well, when they left for Duluth on Monday.

Because the teachers did not get checks for the last two weeks before Christmas and because of the 19 per cent reduction that we took for the fall months I have not had the money so far that

I honestly thought I would have by this time. We have another pay-day in the latter part of this month, -- on January 27, but I will do my utmost -- now that I am well again -- to borrow a little money before I get the check so that I may send you a payment as soon as I possibly can. You may rest assured that I am not indifferent in regard to making payment, and that I have endeavored to be honest. Conditions have arisen that have made plans "fall through". And I have faith, and know that I will do my best, that what I owe you will be honestly paid and before so very long.

In closing let me again wish for you a new year that will be good and blessed in every way.

Dear Mrs. Rolvaag, --

I have your letter, and should have answered before.

I will have a little money before the middle of July and will send interest and interest on interest on or before that time.

You state that you did not know how the $25.00 I sent two years ago was to be applied. I meant that $14.00 out of the $25.00 was to pay interest on the $200.00 from spring of 1931 to spring 1932. That left $11.00 to reduce principal from $200.00 to $189.00. And a year ago I sent payment of interest on the $189.00 to your brother in Sioux Falls. And, as said, very shortly I will send interest on the $189.00 from spring 1933 to spring 1934.

I wish that I could send also some to apply on principal, but I have (over)
