Return to
O. E. Rölvaag
Professor O. E. Rolvaag,
Norwegian American Historical Association,
Northfield, Minn.
My dear Rolvaag,
I had hoped that we might meet in Norway during the summer,
and hope I must not interpret your non-arrival as due to your
ilness, but that you are well on the road to recovery. You will
have heard from our good friend Prestgaard about our meetings over
in Norway. Unfortunately the newspapers got hold of my interest
in the work, which I did not want them to, but still perhaps it has
created an interest in some quarters where otherwise it might not
have been realised that the work you people have taken in hand is
a serious work. You are also aware that Hammer continues to work
until the end of the year. I have received the enclosed letter
from him and I do hope that he is right in thinking that he has
unearthed something which is worth while. The preliminary things
he sent me for perusal did not appear to me very exciting.
I am over in London for a few days to deal with some
important matters before returning to Paris where I am making an
effort to learn French in a short time. I am not at all certain
that I shall succeed. It is more difficult than I had anticipated.
I have put in a great deal of work to start with, but found it was
too much. Evidently too many new impressions all at once are
not conducive to sleep at our time of life. I do hope that my
friends are right that the second month will prove far easier than
the first and show much greater results.
With kindest regards to your wife and yourself,
Yours Sincerely,
K F Knudsen
