JoNewell: Succession Books (regimental) Page 16; Soldier no. 7 gives his parish as what looks like Barney Castle. This is a local slang for Barnard Castle, if thats correct. Also what does NS or US mean in Period of Service. Wondered if it was National Service?
That sounds about right for place of birth, not sure with the US or NS I will have to ask a colleague
Spoke to my military specialist colleague and he confirms: US is unlimited service, and NS probably means the same, just their writing. You may also see LS, this is Limited Service. Thank you
