Could it be "The Boss" not "The Boro"?

Can't find the original.
I thought it was the Boro' as in Borough/Southwark. Comparing a working class dog with a middleclass dog and an upper class dog.
Could be. Was that a suitable contraction at the time?
May have a lead on the original. Give me five mins.
