Just fyi, Vuestra Señoria instead of Vuestra Señora
I follow what this person wrote and for this particular batch IMG 0372 has it written out as Senora, so I used that as a pattern. I also look at completed versions of a batch I'm working on to see what the reviewer's preference is. In these 60 pages some are still Señora after the review process. So I just type and let whomever does the reviewing to change it to what they want.
Hello, MorenoDD! Just wanted to share that I do exactly what you do, too. Sometimes, I look or review the previous pages and the following pages. It helps to figure out the spelling and to observe the patterns for the words and letters. Also, I have noticed that other transcribing organizations use the exact spelling and don't even expand on the abbreviations - as we do. Don't know, but I assume that by expanding on the abbreviations, we are trying to make it more modern, easier, and friendlier to the users of the transcribed documents. At any rate, just wanted to say that I'm in full agreement with your approach.
Hi David and Hector, thanks for chiming in. So, the clarification is that Vuestra Señoria is a title, Your Lordship, but not to be confused with Nuestra Señora, referring to Our Lady from IMG_0372. It is a good idea to look for the patterns, just wanted to clarify this one as Vuestra Señoria is quite a common title. Thank you both for the great work!
Hector, we do expand the abbreviations, in part for readability, but also to help translators. Thanks!
Dr. Taylor! One more thing, could you please expand or clarify on the double consonant guidelines? For example, for the words "cassa" and "essposa", do we transcribe both "ss" or do we drop one of the "s" consonants? And does this clarification also apply to the double "tt" consonants? I'm assuming that for the double "rr" we definitely drop one "r" but leave the double "rr" or "rolling r" when the pronunciation in the word requires it. Sorry, I know you are super busy. I hope you are still online.
Hi Hector! We keep the double s as at certain times they can have linguistic significance. The double t or p are not kept. The r is transcribed as per modern norms, so rreal would be real, Tores would be Torres, etc. Thanks!
Now I'm confused because in the General Norms, bullet point #4, it says to use the double t's. I think we all could use a margarita about now!
