Nancy (Brig) of Rochester, Nathan Briggs, master, Seth Barlow, second mate, keeper, on voyage from New York to Gothenburg March 26, 1810- May 28, 1810. Journal volume confiscated by the Danes for seven months while Barlow and his shipmates were taken onboard the Danish privateer North Star and later confined at Trondheim. (See NBW 1270, May 29, 1810-September 13, 1810). Journal recommences back onboard the Nancy, January 20, 1811- May 20, 1811 bound for Newry, Ireland.

1810 Remarks on Board the Nancy New York ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- New York Monday March 26 th ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This Morning found the Snow Several Inches deep on Deck, the forenoon Imployed in Clearing Down Decks In the afternoon Began to Load tools in 12 Hogsheads of Tobacco Marked 1 7- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - G 1- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - S 2- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -B and 705 Sticks of Logwood, 4 Men to Work on Board from the Shore Bought for Myself 1 Quire of Paper and one Bunch of Quills-- $30 Also Paid Miss Dickerson for Board----$2"50 So ends the Day _________________________________________________

E. took Both Cables on Deck. Likewise the Stream Cable from the fore ½ Deck. Cleared every thing from between Decks and began to Stow Cargo on the ½ Decks, this Day was lost accidenttally into the Dock one Kask of Raisons Worth 7 Dollors, took in as Cargo, 48 Hogsheads of Cotton Marked D,W,G, and [&C?] 450 Kegs of Reasons Marked G, Sent Allen Dexter $1.00 Spent- - - - - - - - - - - - - 13 So ends this Day

[marginalia, vertically] Newyork [marginalia, vertically] Thursday March 29th ________________________________________________ This Day attended with a Continued Stream of Snow and Rane Squalls, Wind W, N, W, Crew Imployed in Setting up and Overhawling Riggin, took on Board 2 Loads of Wood, 5 Men to work from the Shore Stowing Cotton, Took in 30 Bailes Marked G at 10 Oclock the Sloop Victory Sailed for Rochester, Sent 7 or 8 Letters by Capt Willice to My friends, This Day old Joe came on Board as COOK also lay a Small Bet with Mr Holden that He doese not Put in his Vote on Monday next at Rochester Town, --Went on Board the two friends which has Just arrived but found No Letters from Home Spent this Day ---- $ 00..10 This afternoon a Caulker to Work on Board ________________________________________________ [marginalia, vertically] Newyork [marginalia, vertically] Friday March 30th ________________________________________________ This Day Cold and Blustering Wind NNW People Imployed in Mending Sailes and reathing Running Riggin, Took on Board for Ships up 12 Barrels of Beef and Pork, and 16 Barrels of Bread Bent the Maintopsail, 4 or 5 Lumpers and one Caulker to work on Board, took in 20 Bailes of Cotton Marked G Stowed the Cabbin and [State?] Rooms full of Bailes of Cotton, This evening one Mr Clark was Drowned in the Dock, To make a finish of the Day went to Pay was [sited?] the Mountainees To which was added the Celebrated [farce?] of Three Weeks after Marriage Paid for a Ticket at the Play House sum $ 1,,00 Received of Mr Hillar 1,,00 So ends the Day all in heapes

Mended the foretopSail and Bent it. took two or three round Bailes of Cotton out of the Cabbin. and took in Square ones in their Sted Stowed the Long Boat. Two Loades of Wood. Some Warter took in for Ship Stores 1 Bar. of Beans, 1 of Flour ½ of Meat 1 Box of Candles, Coff. Tea, Sugar Chips and Many other Small articles, 1 Barrel of Tar, 3 Quoiles of Cordage. This Day the following People Signed the Shiping Papers Timothy Hellar $35..00 Seth Barlow Jr 28..00 Silas Briggs 20..00 Allen Denter 20..00 Silvanus Briggs 18..00 Joseph Smith 20..00 Stowed one Cable below, together with the Stream Cable.
