This one item collection is an 1864 pocket diary primarily written by Henry Lane Stone, who took the diary from a Union soldier he had captured on February 14, 1865. Stone was part of the Confederate States of America Army, Company D of the 9th Kentucky Calvary. This diary records the final months of the war and immediately after as his unit was part of the forces escorting Jefferson Davis after the surrender.
