Amendments Proposed to the aid Bill.
Page 1st line 13th, after the Word |men| insert One other Company of fifty men.

Whereas the Cherokees [thro?] the Instigation of the French Continue their depredations on the Frontier of this Province and are daily Murdering and Carrying the Inhabitants into Captivity.
Be it therefore enacted by the Governor Council and Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That the Sum of eight Thousand Pounds Proclamation Money be and is hereby granted to his Majesty for augmenting the Forces now in ^(the) pay of this Province to ^(four) |three^(del)| hundred |and fifty^(dele)| affective men exclusive of Officers. And for Paying and Subsisting the same when so Augmented; Which said men shall be formed into [boxed text] dele four [end boxed text] ^(five) Companies, that is to say, the Company now in pay [left margin notation] 13 [end left margin notation] shall be augmented to fifty men And the other Companies shall Consist of One hundred men each And there shall be appoint [left margin notation] 15 [end left margin notation] -ed to the said Forces the following Officers, to wit, one Major [left margin notation] 16 [end left margin notation] one adjutant and to each ^(other) Company one Captain, two Lieuten =ants one Ensign, two Serjeants four Corporals and one Drummer and likewise to attend the said Forces one Surgeon. ^(and the said Forces) [crossed out] who [end crossed out] shall receive the following pay, to wit, the Major twelve Shillings & Six pence; the Surgeon five Shillings ^(The Adjuntant five Shillings) a Captain Seven Shillings & six pence a Lieutenant five Shillings an Ensign four Shillings a Serjeant two Shillings a Corporal & Drummer [left margin notation] 23 [end left margin notation] one Shilling and Six pence each, and each Private man One Shilling per Diem Proclamation Money. And each Non Com =missioned officer and private man ^(shall be allowed) eight pence per diem for [left margin notation] 26 [end left margin notation] Subsistence. Punishment for neglect or breach of duty as the regular [left margin notation] 2 [end left margin notation] troops in his Majesty's Service in America.
Provided nevertheless, that if the said Service shall not acquire the said Forces to be so long ^(continued) in Pay, it shall and may be Lawful for the Governor or Commander in [left margin notation] 74 [end left margin notation] Chief ^(⊖) to Cause all or any part of the said Forces to be soon discharged; any thing herein Contained to the Contrary Notwithstanding.

And every Captain Recruiting Officer and other person Neglecting so to do shall and are hereby declared to be incapable Thereafter of having any Command or Serving as an Officer in either of the said Companies. ^(x) And in Case he shall be thereafter Continued in the said Service shall not be allowed any Pay for the same nor have any Claim on the Public on that Account.
And be it further enacted by the Au =thority aforesaid; That no person in the said Service shall hold or enjoy Two Commissions or posts; ^(X) And if any person ^(*) Contrary to the Intents and meaning of this Act shall have Several Commissions or be appointed to act in Several Capacities or discharge two or more duties in the same, he shall have an allowance from the Publick for one Service only.
And whereas there is not money in the Public Treasury to Answer the Purposes aforesaid And the reduced state of the Province renders it impracticable to raise the Same by a Poll Tax. Be it therefore, further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That Samuel Swann and John Starkey Esquires are hereby authorized impressed and required to Stamp or print and make out or Cause to be Stamped or printed and also to sign with their hands Public Bills
