Friday evening ?? Jan 12

Hello there darling,

How's my best girl now, O.K, I hope and in the best of health.

Well the mail came today and I had all I could carry in my arms for our group. There was letters for everyone too, I had three from you and a package of mints, thanks very much. The box of home cooked mints from June & Red came too, they are very good. Two stanly papers too but I haven't read em yet. I bet your Christmas tree was very pretty, June & Red are quite good at fixing them up anyway.

3 Mr. Phillips wouldn't want you to be away from your job but don't take and chances of being sick, job or no job!

Today was wash-day for me, my clothes too! took a bath in a bucket and then washed all of my clothes after putting on all clean ones. There is a little snow & ice so I guess their clothes are frozen but the french man here said to bring them in tonight and his wife will finish drying them and iron them too. imagine that in the [crossed out word] E.T.O!! You can make friends anywhere in the world I guess. Its pretty cold today, nothing unusual but below freezing. I'm use to it though and its lots better than when it was warm and raining so much. you should have seen us sleighing on a hill on one street. There was kids from knee-high to grown-ups plus G.I.'s

4 At present I'm writting in a very nice room, wish you could see this dining room suit, it's quite nice and expensive too. I've never seen one quite like it, very modern too! So you see things are pretty good with me and the group as a whole!

You ask about sending me something, but there is nothing I need, there is one exception ink and I ask for some in an earlier letter. We have plenty cigs, soap, razorblades, shaving equiptment socks ect. So the most valuable thing to send to any G.I over here is something to eat like candies or cakes & coffee. [???] That doesn't last long so it doesn't take up space. These fellows that get cigs & shaving cream often pass it on sometimes to the French. In our cig rations there is a supply of [???] articles.

So long for now and best wishes, Love always to my Darling - Charles

Thursday nite Jan 18th

Hello Darling, I just finished my work, so now to catch-up with a little of my writing. I haven't written any letters in the past day or so and that's bad.

How are you darling, o.k. I certainly hope and in the best of health. How are your working hours? I bet yours are quite boring most of the time! How is Mrs Fink these days or maby I should say Grandmother Fink, say hello and best wishes for me
