Dearest Mother,

It's been three days since I received your
letter saying Tommy was in serious con-
dition and not expected to pull through.
I read it through several times, not want-
ing to believe what I read. Each time,
before I was through I could hardly see
for the tears. I feel so helpless sitting
way over here. How I wish I could be
there with you, Goldie, Mama, Mac and
Tommie. All I can do is pray for him,
especially to have him stay with us,
but if not, that, to ease the pain.

It doesn't seem fair that such a
small innocent child should go, when
there's so many deep, deep sinner's in the
world today. Please keep me posted as
to how he is getting along. Thanks for
being so sweet about breaking the bad
news. You are so good.

Now that all the fuss is over about
going home, it seems my time will come
sometime in mid-February. That's not
much longer than it would have been
before this new redeployment program
took effect. Guess I'll get there In March
at least!

The time is so dull here! I've decided
to go down to Garmisch for three more
days. It will help pass away those
days until I can leave for home. Those
boys who just came back from Garmisch
say it is really snow covered winter
land now.
