Hickory N.C. Oct. 8, 1912

February 1st. I joined the girls canning & poultry club, in regard to do all I could in the work. I have enjoyed work & meetings throughout the season. And had much pleasure in talking with our field-agents & club members.

March 23 ,1912, I received my seed and sowed them in a small box March 26, 1912. I kept them good and moist, but they didn't come up very well, untill April 21, they began to come up.

My garden was plowed 10 inches deep. And May 2[marked out]. I planted them in a cold frame. May 17 I transplanted my plants June 16 I set them in my 1/10 A. plot. June 21 my brother plowed my garden, and I hoed it my plants began to take a start to grow, he plowed it again June 26 I hoed it again and July 6 he plowed the garden again

June 9 I saw my first bud. June 14 it was in bloom. June 18 it was a nice little tomato.

July 8 I staked my plants the was growing nice, but was very small. July 16 I gathered my first fruit July 23 I canned my first fruit. I had a lot of trouble with the canning work at first untill I got more experience in the canning work.

I had lost a great deal of my plants by wilt and blight and also a good many rotted although I never got discouraged with that I did all I could to make the work a success not not only for myself but for others and our county. Our field agents visited us and would look over our gardens.

I certainly think it is good schooling for all that is in the work. I certainly enjoyed the meetings I attended and readings of what great success girls have made in this work.

All good wishes for a happy future I am your fa [crossed out] faithful club member.
