Dear Sir.

I am quite sure that you are a lover of fairness, and an enemy of misinformation.

In this morning Edition of the Herald, there appears a short article, in Editorial type, wherein I am [represented?] as making this Society ridiculous, by demanding that my "chickens case " should take precedency of several cases of cruelty to women."

I beg to say in my own defence, this is without the least shadow of foundation in truth; that I never [saved? ]a question of precedence in the matter; that Justice [Dowling?] stated in Court that he had of his own accord taken the case in question out of its regular order: and not one word was uttered in my hearing, that any case of cruelty to women was upon the Calendar.

And if there had been, it was not for me to order the motion of the Court to be set aside.

Once the case was, up, however and knowing that the defendants had failed to appear and with every reason to believe that the same barbarities were still going on, in defiance of law, I requested that some action shall be immediatly taken to put a stop to them. Did I [illegible] [them?]

I am also censured for appearing in Court? It was on a Summons from that very court that I was there, and had I disregarded it, I should have exposed myself to punishment and [illegible] [in?] [no?] [time?].
