and yet, it must be done, for my own private fortune is not equal to my compassionate feelings. I indulge the belief that few persons can read the Report of the Proceedings of [this?] Society during the last year -- a copy of which I trust has reached you -- without being convinced of its usefulness, and of the zeal and fidelity with which its affairs are administered.
I confidently assert, that not a dollar of its [funds?] is expended, without being productive of mitigated suffering to the defenseless dependants of our race: and thereby elevating the moral susceptibilities of mankind.
Printing, and other necessary expenses, draw heavily on our slender treasury ; and with a full and grateful appreciation of your previous generosity, I ask your pardon for again appealing to you.
