16 Sept 8

Abm. Brown Esq

Dear Sir,

By referring to your letter of 5 Sept, we find that you say "John [Fabrey?] had been discharged from your employ, and "would not again be employed [underlined] by [underlined] you [underlined] under [underlined] any [underlined] circumstances." [underlined]

Greatly to my astonishment and indignation, I find that he [underlined] is [underlined] in your employ, as driver of Car 51, thereby [trifling?] with this Institution, & adding to the already outrageous insult, [opposed] to one of the most active, [worthy?] members of this Society - Mr. Campbell.

This action on your part is, to say the least, pr[illegible]ication, & is in fact aiding & abetting [illegible]ism; which you should, and have professed a desire to prevent.

I found that he is merely transferred from Car 57 to Car 51, and [if?] this has been done with your knowledge, I [leave] you to apply a [suitable?] epithet to the act.

Yours Very Respectfully

Henry [underlined]Bergh [underlined] President]
