On motion of Mr. Parsons, duly seconded, the President was requested to have the property 448 Broome Street appraised by Mr. Horace [S?]. Ely, and to report at the next meeting.

The President reported that on September 20th he received a letter from Mrs. [Caroline?] E. Stone, widow of Col. Henry Stone, of Boston, stating that in looking over Col. Stone's papers recently there was found a will of the late Mrs. [G?].B. Stone, [Caving?], after Col. Stone's death, a property consisting of a house on 21st Street, Washington, D.C. to the Society of which Mr. Henry Bergh was President.
The President communicated with the agents for the property, who stated that the house was somewhat old-fashioned and out of order, but if put in good order, at an expense, they estimate, of about $500. to $600., the property should be worth about $6000.-

President Haines also reported that under the will of Mrs. Alethea M. Drake, of Brooklyn, the sum of $100. was [b?]equeathed to the Brooklyn Woman's Dumb Animal Aid Association, if in existence at the time of her death. If not in existence, however, the amount was to go to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The President stated that the Brooklyn Woman's Dumb Animal Aid Association was not an incorporated body and did not, therefore, exist in law. Being a small matter he had placed it in the hands of Mr. George F. Elliott, the Society's attorney in Brooklyn, and had notified the Counsel of the Society to that effect on October 8th, but had not received [an?] acknowledgment of his letter.

The President also referred to the Albany injunction suit- Fox vo. The Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society- and the decision of Justice Chase in favor of the constitutionality of the dog license law, Chapter 448 of the Laws of 1896.

President Haines stated that the apartment house owned by the Society at 163 Madison Street
