test in the name of the Society, and had received a reply from the deputy commissioner of Public Works stating that after due consideration, it had been decided to pave the blocks in question with cork, with which pavement the Department had become thoroughly satisfied after a year's experiment on First Avenue, and from the fact that it is extensively used in foreign cities.
