New York, May 19th, 1898.

A regular monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held at Headquarters this day at 4 P. M. On motion of President Haines, Mr. Hicks took the chair.

Present:

James Grant Wilson,
William Fahnestock,
William H. Parsons,
George G. DeWitt, Secretary.

The Secretary not having arrived, the Chair appointed Mr. Parsons Secretary pro tem.

The minutes of the preceding monthly meeting, held March 17th, were read and approved. ( The regular monthly meeting called for April 21st was not held owing to the lack of a quorum ).

Judge Russell and Col. Erhardt telephoned to say that they would be unable to attend the meeting, and asked to be excused.

The President reported that he had executed a lease of the Brooklyn Office of the Society , 13 Willoughby Street , for two years , at a rental of $1200 for the first year and $1350 for the second year.

On motion of Mr. Parsons, duly seconded, the action of the President was approved.

The President reported the resignation of Mr. H. E. Spackman and the appointment of Mr. Stephen F. Massett as cashier and bookkeeper. The action of the President in making the appointment was approved.

The temporary secretary surrendered his seat to Mr. DeWitt, who arrived at this point of the proceedings, Gen. Wilson and Mr. Fahnestock also arrived.

The President reported that thieves had broken into the headquarters of the Society, 10 East 22nd Street, prior to the expiration of the Society's lease, and stolen lead pipe, &c. , and damaged the plumbing, to the extent of about $300.
