other fertilizing material, it is generally considered that it pays well to fertilize heavily. In some cases, heavy manuring may produce a somewhat inferior quality, but if care is exercised in the kind and amount of fertilizers, the gain in quantity will more than compensate for the loss in quality. Different soils require different treatment, but generally speaking, good well-rotted stable manure gives probably the most satisfactory results of any fertilizer that can be applied. In addition to the large amount of plant food it contains, it has the advantage of supplying a large amount of humus, thus rendering the soil in a good physical condition, which requirement is so essential to the development of the tobacco plant. This may be supplemented by such commercial fertilizers as may be required under different conditions.
