(14) Stripping or Grading Tobacco

Grading tobacco should be performed with a great deal of pains, as it is very important that tobacco should be nicely handled and well assorted. When ready to grade or strip take as much as you want to strip, hang it up in a damp place; so that you may handle it without danger of breaking or shattering off.

Select leaves as near the same size and color as possible, making from four to eight different grades, according to the tobacco. Never tie more that six leaves in a bundle unless it is [illiegible] lugs or very small leaves. Then put on well dressed sticks. Putting from twenty to thirty bundles on a stick. Then bulk down a day or two, being very careful to lay it straight, then hang it up and let it dry. If you have bundled your tobacco nicely and assorted it well you may expect a good price for it.
