Dear Mr Knapp

The enclosed will tell its own
sad story. I am very sorry that some
one has thought of this invention before
you and am sorry that our labors
have come to nothing. Do not be
discouraged however. The next time
we will surely be right.

If you have any one in your
employ who can read German, I
will go with him to the Astor Library
and look at this Patent. The examiners
judgment may be at fault, and it may
not conflict with your patent.

Very truly yours
J.C.F. Gardner

Brackett

If that money is not
here for Brewer tomorrow morning
by 11, I am going up to see Schmidt
myself and tell this whole transaction
to him, explain to him how the state of
affairs was brought about and your con
nection with it.

I am getting tired of being played
with, and I am sick of evasion, shuffling
and deceit. Of all the things you have prom
ised seince I knew you you have never per
formed one. I am weary of being brought
to account for your short comings.

Yours truly
[J.C.F. Gardner]
