Letter book 2, 1 January 1835-19 November 1843
Includes letters relating largely to personal affairs and his antislavery concerns including letters to Hezekiah Barnard, Moses Brown, John Macy, Benjamin and William Rotch. Also correspondence regarding the writing, publication [in 1835] and sale of Macy's "History of Nantucket" (75 cents) and about dividends for shares in the Straight Wharf which Macy, with several partners, owned. Some political correspondence with President Andrew Jackson and John Reed, Congressman from the Nantucket District, in attempting to receive compensation for the Ship "Joanna", owned by the Macy firm, which was captured by the French even though there was no war between France and America.
