The spring has been uncommonly wet, frequent
heavy rains the upland grass appears uncommonly
forward. The low meadow is rather backward.
Too much wet checks the growth. The gardens
generally are backward cold easterly winds &
storms prevented the first seeds from coming
up. Other garden vegetation wants warmth &
dry weather to bring it forward.

The marine Rail way at Brant Point was finished &
ready for the reception of vessels.
Application was immediately made to haul
on Vessels which by various trials has been to
answer the purpose intended so that it is
constantly employed. And the owners of vessels
are obliged to wait for their turn.
It seems to accord with their wishes so
completely that they intend to erect one other
Rail way near the same place.
The digging machine does not bear so high
a character; In the course of last winter it was
lengthened & repaired to a great expence [EXPENSE] & when put to
the work of digging it appeared likely to succeed
to expectation, but is believed that where they have
dug out the sand it fills up again & that for
that reason a ship channel cannot be obtained.
Furthermore, the Machine often needs some
repairs, which retards the progress of the business.
