25th 8 mo The Ship called the Charles Carroll building at Brant Point is to be launched today At half past eleven AM she was launched into the element designed for her future destiny with that majestick [MAJESTIC] elegance which was pleasing to the numerous spectators present. She being the first Ship built at Brant Point since the Railway was established, it drew a great concourse of people.

1st 9 mo Autumn comes in a sudden change in the weather, a strong wind at NE and very cold for the first day of fall, many of the most prudent part of the community changed their dress to nearly winter clothing.

The price of wood continues almost stationary, the first quality at 8$ so down to 7$ of an inferior quality. But I believe the sickness in N. York has turned the course of the wood coasters from L. Island & Connecticut to this place which has fill our market of late with that article so that at present time the Island is better wooded than ustual so early in the season. some hundreds Tons of Coal has also been imported, which many people prefer for burning rather than wood.

The price of oil in a crude state is worth 82 cent & manufactured at market is a quick sale at 85. Winter [OIL] 95 & candles at 30. Flour much as it has been some time 7 1/2 to 7 3/4 corn is high 90 to 100 cts. for Southern.
