The sparks flew to a great distance, considering the light breeze that prevailed, and partially set fire to a number of buildings, but were immediately put out.

10th The town convened to take into consideration the subject of the late fire. A Committee of 12 was appointed to investigate the affair, to find how the fire commenced. Another committee was appointed to see what addition to the fire apparatus is necessary to be made. And report the 16th. When met the town house was full. The first committee reported that they could find nothing that satisfied them how the fire originated. The 2nd Committee reported which after some amendment read thus. That the add three new engines & hose to each, and several hundred feet of hose in addition, with houses etc. & other apparatus. All which was adatped without opposition.
