Fore part strong winds from SE and very rugged.
Saw sperm whale. Lowred [LOWERED] the boats to [TOO] near Night. Got none.
Going NNW. Middle and latter the same. At day light ship
afoul of whales. Gallied them. Lowred [LOWERED] but got none. A Briggantine [BRIGANTINE]
in sight. Latt [LATITUDE] 25.46 S Long [LONGITUDE] 164.31 E

[STAMP OF WHALE TAIL]
Fore part strong winds and squally and very
rugged. At 3 PM whales again and gallied by the ship.
So rugged could not see spout. Lowred [LOWERED] but got none.
Middle and latter the same. Saw whales going fast
to the SE. Lowred [LOWERED]. Got none.
