June 8th First part moderate breezes from
E. N. East. Ship stearing north by
the wind. All sail set. At 4 P.M
bent the mainsail. Midle part stearin
a course North. All sail set. Latter part
light winds. Emploid mending the fore
topgallonsail So ends Lat 2 13 155 11

June 9th First part light airs from the East
Ship stearing north all sail. At
4 P,M bent the main top gallonsail
Midle part and latter stearing
the same. All sail set. 0 57 155 00

June 10th First Part moderate breezes from
E.N.East. At one P.M saw two
sail and saw sperm whales
and chaised them untill sunset
and then lored 4 boats but being
dark got none and at 8 P.M spoke
ship Potomac 20, months out 300.
Midle part laying aback to the
North. Latter part stearing S. West

June 11th
First part light winds. Spoke ships
Othelo and Potomac. Midle part
laying aback. Latter part light
airs. Spoke the same ships. Othelo
aboiling small whale. So ends

June 10 "spoke ship Potomac" of Nantucket, 356 tons, Capt. Enoch Ackley, agent I. & P. Macy. Sailed Oct. 27, 1853. Returned Sept. 17, 1857. 87 bbls sperm. "Captain Ackley died on the voyage sent home 300 sperm; on of the `Stone Fleet' sunk of Charleston harbor." Starbuck p. 510-511
