1776 | dispute between Villier and Armant over trade venture with Native people | FRENCH and SPANISH

ReadAboutContentsHelp
Baltazar de Villier, a infantry captain in the Louisiana battalion, claims he gave Joseph Maria Armant, a Natchitoches merchant, 45 thousand pounds to start a trade venture with Indigenous people "of all nations" in 1773 (from the WPA abstract). Three years later, Villier complains to the judiciary that Armant hasn't shared any reports on the trade venture they agreed to start or fulfilled any of the obligations he initially agreed to carry out. This document includes a written agreement in French, and the notary's record of Villier's complaint is in Spanish. Transcribing and translating this record can help us learn more about the plans and alleged outcome of this trade venture.
