Patricia suggested putting in brackets around the word page to indicate that the number was a page number. Please advise about what you would prefer for the index.
Hello: yes, using the brackets around page to indicate a page number, as you have done, is good for the index.
Separately, the spreadsheet is just for the birth record data, so the index text does not get inserted there, just in the text box field. Thank you for your work!
Yes, it wasn’t until I spoke with Patricia, who knew the names of the enslavers at a glance, and we moved forward to the pages showing entries about children that I recognized the difference. We may want to provide guidance on the distinction between the index and pages with entries about the children's births and how each are formatted. Otherwise, others may, like me, mistakenly add any list of names to the spreadsheet.
I'm working on a page/message board post for that now with some notes to keep in mind, hopefully I can link it within the About section so people can see it directly as they open the project here. It's also on the webpage that we created for archives.nyc (I hope people are able to find it! I've heard it's not being promoted much), but, regardless, I also added these notes to the transcription conventions for now.
