Dear Miss Ward: -

The Legionary magazine published for July
reveals You are interested in material for
Cornelius Ryan's story on D-Day June 6 1944.

Perhaps I can be of some assistance in
the research but first I should tell you
about myself and my connection with D-Day.

The unit with which I enlisted June 24 1940
was the Stormont Dundas and Glengarry
Highlanders of 9 Brigade 3rd Canadian Division.
This Brigade was the only Highland Brigade
in the Canadian Army and was comprised
of the Highland Light Infantry of Canada
the S.D.& G. Highlanders. The Brigade
landed in Normandy the morning of
June 6 1944. I regret however that I
was not with the Battalion having
been held on the south coast of England
with a vehicle until the landing was
completed. Then, over I went on an
L.S.T. (Landing Ship Transport).
