Sgt George Fort, 2nd Squad -4th Platoon- H Co
507th Prcht Inf, was involved in a very amusing
situation:

Sgt Fort's mission upon landing was to gather
up the 10lb land mines which each of us carried
on the jump. He and his squad were to take these
land mines and proceed through "C" town to a
road junction - and lay a mine field there. An
incidental or token portion of this mission was
that he should gather up the enemy in "C" town,
place them in a barn and leave one man to guard
them during the construction of the mine field.

That seemed not too difficult a task as we worked
on the sand table just prior to D-Day. It became
hysterical, however, when three line divisions,
an airborne division, some 3,000 bombers, and
all the heavy stuff in Normandy had to be applied
to take "C" town.
