Your name PETER VISCARDI

Did you by any chance keep a diary of what happened to you that day? No

Were any of your friends killed or wounded either during the landing or
during the day? At that time I was a man by myself
so was every one else-

Do you remember any conversations you had with them before they became
casualties? No.

Were you wounded? No. I was wounded later at the
Battle of St. Lo.

Do you remember what it was like--that is, do you remember whether you
felt any pain or were you so surprised that you felt nothing?
I felt nothing.

Do you remember seeing or hearing anything that seems funny now, even
though it did not, of course, seem amusing at the time?
When making the Invasion I was told to jump
overboard fully equipped & I didn't even know
how to swim doing so I left all of my equipment
on the ship & jumped over board. reaching the
Beach head I picked up any equipment I could
salvage from the many dead American
soldiers lying on the Beach.

Do you recall any incident, sad or heroic, or simply memorable, which struck you more than anything else?
The one thing that struck me was when
I jumped overboard & saw all the dead
soldiers lying in the water I wondered
when & if I would be there with them
