Dear Miss Ward:
Your letter of June 1st has been forwarded,
as I am on a long vacation + not due back in
the U.S. until 22 Sept. I am spending next
5 weeks in Belgian Congo, + then in Northern Italy
etc. The American Ambassador, Brussels, will
know generally where I am, but I don't suppose
Mr. Ryan will come to the Congo?
I think your people should look up the
major histories of the Invasion, to understand that
actually I commanded all the U.S. Naval Forces
in the Invasion. All planning with E/Z was
under my direction + I was on the bridge of my
flagship, the U.S.S. Augusta, during all the stages
of the battle.
It would be a pleasure to see Mr. Ryan
when I am back in New York in the fall
