20th June, 1958 S.E. Hollis, Esq., 33, Henry Taylor Court, Old Ormeshy Middlesbrough.

Dear Mr. Hollis, Thank you very much for your nice letter of 19th June. I do appreciate that it is vital for you to catch the 3.40 p.m. train from Kings Cross and we shall make sure that you are there in time. We tried to reserve a seat for you on the homeward journey but we were told by the Railway Officials that this is not possible. They assure us, however, that there will be plenty of room as this is not normally a busy train. I am enclosing herewith your sleeping berth reservation and your return ticket; I think you will have to ask at Darlington just where the sleeping berth is. Mr. Ryan and I are looking forward very much to meeting you and I should like to thank you in advance for co-operating with us so wholeheartedly. Yours very sincerely, (Joan Ogle Isaacs)

9th July, 1958.

S.E. Hollis, Esq., 33, Henry Taylor Court, Old Ormesby, Middlesbrough.

Dear Mr. Hollis,

I felt that I should personally write to thank you for the wonderful contribution which you have made in the preparation of the D-Day book which I am writing. It is really heart warming to get such co-operation and indeed it is expecting a great deal to ask any man to try and remember the happenings of fifteen years before. So I am especially thankful to you for helping as you have done, not only in answering the points on the questionnaire - some of them indeed of a rather personal nature - but also because you took the time to allow us to interview you.

It may very well be a full year before the work is completed, but at that time a copy of The Reader's Digest, containing the story "The Longest Day", will be sent to you.

Thank you too, for lending us your copy of "The Story of the Green Howards - 1939-45" which I am returning herewith. I found this very useful and it was very kind of you to allow me to keep it so long.

Yours sincerely,

(Cornelius J. Ryan )
