JONES 1 July 1958 QS. 8/7/58 Dear Sir, I have seen your notice concerning D-Day in the Spring Edition of "The Oak Tree." I was in command of 8 Platoon of "A" Co'y one of the two assault companies of the 1st Battalion, The South Lancashire Regt., making the landing at "H" hour on the beach at Luc-sur-Mer. The Battalion was in 8 Brigade, 3rd Brit Inf. Division. If you care to contact me, I would be pleased to revive some now rather rusty memories! 5th August, 1958

Major E. Jones, 42, Bidston Road, Birkenhead.

Dear Major Jones,

I felt that I should personally write to thank you for the wonderful contribution you have made in the preparation of the D-Day book which I am writing. The material in the questionnaire you sent me has been a great help in filling in many of the details of the work done in Normandy that day by members of the British Services.

It will probably be a full year before the book is completed and on its publication in The Reader's Digest under the story "The Longest Day", it will give us great pleasure to send you a copy.

Yours sincerely, (Cornelius J. Ryan)
