In times of great crisis, people generally show either great ingenuity
or self-reliance; others do incredibly strange or stupid things. Do
you remember any examples of either?
After we were through the wire, our sargeant was badly wounded.
He was hit with shrapnel from a shell which blew a 4' hole
in the ground. At the same time, a bulldozer moved away and
the sargeant rolled into its tracks. I went to pull him to
safety and he was annoyed. "Leave me alone, you should be
firing," he said. I could see the bulldozer returning and the
poor sargeant directly in its path. Despire his wild protestations
I managed to get him out of harms way. "Start firing," he again
commanded. "At what," I felt like saying. "These are our tanks
and our men." But, I didn't. I fired a coulple of shots at a water tank
about a 1/2 mile away. Stupid? Perhaps, but it pleased an injured man who
smiled as he became unconscious.

Do you know of anybody else who landed within the 24 hours (midnight
5 June to midnight 6 June) either as infantry, glider or airborne troops,
whom we should write to?
No.

What do you do now?
I am a Chief Cinema Projectionist

Please let us have this questionnaire as soon as possible, so that we
can include your experiences in the book. We hope that you will continue
your story on separate sheets if we have not left sufficient room. Full
acknowledgement will be given in a chapter called "Where They Are Now."
