2: Light wind and moderate breeze south to S.W. these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours rain - Last part of 24 hours cloudy & fair - Sea quite rough - General duties for day - Barometer 29.80 to 29.90 - Mr. Withers went to Newport after lumber etc.

3: Light wind to fresh breeze and gale E. to south and S. west these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours fair weather - Last part of 24 hours rain - Sea very rough - Barometer 29.25 to 29.45 - 2nd asst went one mile from sta after some mutton.

4: Gale & fresh breeze to light wind S.W. & west these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours frequent rain squalls - Last part of 24 hours rain showers - Sea very rough - General duties for the day - Barometer 29.60 to 30.04 - Mr. Withers working on repairs - 1st asst went to Newport after mail & supplies - At 7:30 A.M. sighted a schooner sighted lumber barge about 2 miles south of Yaquina bar coming north in close to the breakers flying a signal of distress - The wind dying out she drifted into the breakers and went ashore about two miles south of Yaquina bar - The name of the barge that went ashore was L.H. Wheeler from Nehalem loaded with lumber for San Francisco the cook was lost and three men were saved. The Yaquina bay life saveing crew rendered all the assistance possible.
