14 THURSDAY

We are still maintaining our speed of 5 knots and it
appears as though we will continue to do so for some
time yet as the wind is now very steady. We have now
to be very careful when steering as one of the sails has
a very large hole in it and as the captain does not
wish to change it we have been warned not to let
the sails flap as the slightest flap will ruin it alto
gether. Our course is not North-North East.

15 FRIDAY

Have had a very hard days work today changing
various sails, as we are now putting new sails in the
place of those that are at all weak. One of the jobs
that was allotted to me was to take a rope and
thread it through a block 150 feet above the deck and
as I had to climb a stay for the last 10 feet I was
glad when the block was reached. The wind is now
dropping rapidly and it appears as though we will
soom be becalmed.
