AM clear & pleasant - PM hazy & cold - Passed as usual - Bed 12 - Was talking
hilariously with Dan Davis in the International saloon only about 20 minutes before
he went up home and died - showed no sign or inclination of dying - was
smiling and apparently all right - Mike Conlon was with me and we went to dinner
together - & while eating at the French Rotisserie the news of his death came to
us -

AM pleasant - PM fiercely blustering - all the dust on streets blew away and gravel
flew worse than for years - I about town as usual - Evening at theater - "Shenandoah"
- Biggest house for years - Good play - Very interesting etc - Bed at 1 - Still
blustery & threatening storm -
