Comstock, joined by 3 more from here -- About 250 people in all -- left here at 8:45 -- I was about town -- at State House, State Printing Office, etc -- At 3 PM I telegraphed wife: "Am coming on evening express -- Shall go direct to Pavilion" -- Bought new pr drawers, etc -- Met Jos Gruss on the train -- Step son of Geo W Hopkins -- He was with me at the Jules Pagnol, baby christening at Va about 30 yrs ago -- He is now a mill and mining man in Shasta Co, Cal. Hadn't seen him for a good many years, but we knew each other at once -- Met Sam on sidewalk when got to Reno -- Hardly knew him in his University Cadet uniform -- He & Alf commenced there a week or two ago -- Went with me to Pavilion -- Big crowd -- Met Alf and sent Sam home to bring Goodie -- We took a look at the [?] showing in lower hall, then to upper Hall, where [Roncoveris?] great American Bray band was playing and giving

Same -- AM about town -- This was "Virginia Day" -- 6 big carloads from the Comstock, & 2 from Carson -- PM I was out to the race track -- Big crowd --
