and hoped to find you
in Washington, but not
since you are gone I
will not stop.

I know you do not favor
my parting with my
house. But you will I know
when you learn that Gen'l Grant
recommended me to part with it.
When I could secure as good a
price as I - cost - did. I really feel
quite forlorn at parting with my house myself
and derad it. I have had so many
happy days there, and you know
too of all the sorrowful ones. I here
passes. So I am duly carrying out
