l'en ne congnoist parfaitement son estat et ses euvres
quelles elles sont. Car par les euvres congnost l'en
l'ouvrier et comment il poeut estre tel. Et pour che
les anciens peres se voeuldrent emploir et affair aux
euvres de nostre seigneur tout premierement pour plus
legierement avoir congnoissanche de son povoir et
de sa vertu. Considerans que en plus digne besongue
ne plus difficille ilz ne se povoient occuper Et quant
plus porroient savoir de ses euvers et de son sens tant
auroient ilz meilleure volente d'amer leur createur
et de le honnourer Considerans qu'il avoit fait si

And so they thought well in their understanding, like men
who were of noble and virtuous intention, that if they did not have
knowledge of our Lord God
and of his power they could not understand
and inquire into His works, which appeared to them to be
the most excellent that they could investigate and know.
For one will never know the master if one does
not first know perfectly his situation and
his works. For by his works is the
workman known, and how he might be so considered. And for this reason
the ancients wanted to
