25)We have sincerely endeavored to do what will promote the highest good of ^^the beloved Seminary, whose interests are committed to our care, & for whose prosperity we are willing to spend & be spent.

...It is, Gentlemen, our earnest wish & prayer, that the Lord would guide you in your studies, & fill you with the fruits of his spirit, & thus prepare you for distinguished usefulness in that holy calling, in which you expect erelong to engage

After this reply was communicated, those who had wished to form a society, pursued a course honorable to themselves, & gratifying to all the friends of the Seminary. They at once agreed to acquiesce in the decision of the Faculty;- & thus the whole matter quietly subsided.

We cannot but ^^acknowledge our special obligations to God, that he has dealt so graciously with this Seminary, & hasn now again so ordered things in his providence, that the evils which have so frequently resulted from the agitation of such a subject, have not come upon us. And we most devoutly with that like blessings may be granted to all the literary & religious institutions in our land. P.S We submit to your consideration the expediency of making a law, - that no society shall be formed or continued in the Seminary, & no student belong to any society in this place, without the approbation of the Faculty; - & also that the public exercises of every society in the Seminary shall be under the supervision of the Faculty.
