Andover, December 16th 1851

Started from home this morning at about 1/4 past 7 o clock in the Wenham coach in company with mother and my two friends. Edward P. Crowell, and Rufus Choate, to spend the winter here. Mother left us at my brothers in Hamilton, and we went on. Took the cars at Wenham for Salem, wheere we safely arrived and hired a coach to convey us to the depot of the Lowell railroad.

While there Rufus left the depot for a few moments to get Edwards watch. According to what the conductor said whe would have had plenty of time, but before he came back the cars started, and we were obliged to leave him. We soon reached Wilmington Junction where we changed cars, and went on for

Andover, where we arrived at about 11 o clock. At the depot we took a coach and rode to the houses where we expected to board.

The first thing which we did was to call on Mr. Taylor, found him in his study in the third story of his house. He received us very pleasantly and told us who had the care of the buildings.

Having obtained the keys we proceeded to find a room. We found one with a stove & other furniture in it which we liked very well.

The student who occupied the room last term sold us the stove and a number of necessary articles.

Having carried up our trunks, fixing the bed-stead, and we took some dinner, and soon after started for the depot to find our friend. He came as we expected in the cars.
