not know but that he should continue there into
the summer. He says he does not know when
he shall leave for good. On last sabbath heard
a very intersting sermon about "missions" by
one of the secretaries of the board of missions.
Was forcibly struck with the statements, "that there
are in the world 750,000,000 of heathens who have
not the gospel." And in our own country, "if all
the young men now studying for various
professions were to become preachers of the gospel
they would not supply destitute pulpits."
Truly the harvest is very great and the
laborers few. The Lord is bringing many young
men to himself in many places, and it is to
be hoped to preach the gospel of Christ. Went
to a lecture last night, delivered by a Mr. Thompson
of the "Mendi Mission" Africa. Was very much
interested in his remarks. At the close he showed
us a many things he brought from there. Among
them an idol "which their own hands have made"
Twas made of stone, about 10 inches high and
resembled an animal of the monkey species. This is
very old, more of the natives could tell him when twas made
Twas a queer sensation that passed me as I
handled this image. It is what men worship
think how degraded those people are who thus
worship. How much the need the Gospel of Christ
to purify them and fit them for eternity.
