My dear Mother
Last night was pretty cold and to-day
the ice on a little pond I saw would almost bear.
If it is cold again to night we will have skating
very probably tomorrow which would be delightful.
I expect to go off with the sailor this
afternoon. It seems like winter to have snow on the
ground and the moisture on the windows frozen
hard in the morning as it was to day. Seven
weeks from to day I will be home if nothing happens!
That does not seem like a great deal while longer.
