January 3rd 1826 . Tuesday.
Society convened. After the incipient duties. the Society agreeable to a previous vote, resolved itself into a court. The prisoner charged with having loaned the books of the Library to persons not connected with the Society. and also for voting illegally in the choice of a certain officer, was then arraigned & lawfully tried. The verdict of the jury acquited him of the first impeachment, pronounced him guilty of the second. A prisoner, charged with, "violation of the sabbath" and "illegal voting, was then tried, and adjudged guilty by the court. As a punishment, they were both prohibited the priviledge of voting at the next election of officers. Afer the business of the court, several persons were proposed from the [?] commitee as candidates for admission into the Society. Parts for the next evening were then assigned and the meeting adjourned.
