Copy of telegram.

From Inspector Lamond Coen, 21st May 1897.

To The Commissioner of Police. Brisbane

Recommend you arrange send capable Sub Inspector take charge Coen double detachment and Coen township police with much strength a capable officer could protect or bring to justice both blacks and whites would also be in a position to arrange with squatters re blacks hunting grounds and establishing friendly relations please see my telegram of 19th instant re blacks hunting over runs etc all of which could be arranged by SubInspectors the present native police conditions here are not likely to be of the satisfactory nature I would wish in carrying out the proposed work of civilizing the blacks very much depends on the officer in starting and carrying out such a work.

Jas. Lamond. Inspector.
