Sir,
I have the honor to hand for trans:
:mission [transmission] to the Honourable the Attorney
General - depositions taken before
Lieutenant Powell, Native Mounted Police
a Magistrate of the territory, On board the
Ketch "Ellida" of Rockhampton (carrying
the mail from Port Denison) at Whitsunday
Island on the 27th of August 1861,
as to the melancholy and barbarous
massacre of Mr Henry Irving, passenger,
and Nicholas Millar seaman of that
vessel on an island next to Shaw Island
of the Cumberland Group, on the above
date.

I also do myself the honor to
forward / for the information of
his Excellency the Governor report of
my proceedings in the "Santa Barbara"
(Government Ketch) in prosecution of
a search for the bodies of the murdered
men
