The humble Petition of Jacky Norman at present a Confinee in H.M. P.C. St Helena

Most respectfully Sheweth

I That your Petitioner was convicted before His Honor Mr Justice Pring at Ipswich on a charge of Manslaughter and received a sentence of 15 years P. S on the 25th. July 1882.

II That your petitioner is an aboriginal native of the Colony of Queensland and is about Twenty four years of age.

III That your petitioner is strong and Active a good horseman and tracker and is willing to join the Native police of this Colony should he receive a remission of the remainder of his Sentence.

IV That your petitioner has completed upwards of five years of his said sentence and during the greater portion

thereof has been employed at the said penal Establishment as Horse Driver.

That the manslaughter was that of your petitioners own Gin and that he was suffering from the effects of drink at the time.

That your petitioner has behaved himself as well as he possibly could and wishes respectfully to refer to Captain Townley as to his character and industry.

Therefore Your Petitioner most humbly prays

That Your Excellency may be pleased to grant Your Petitioner his liberty for which he shall ever be grateful.

And Your Petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray &c.
